Liddell currently has approval to utilise three mining methods, truck and excavator, dragline and highwall mining (utilising an auger or continuous miner). Truck and excavator mining method is the primary method currently utilised.

The sequence of mining involves clearing and stockpiling of vegetation and topsoil; drilling and blasting of overburden; excavation and haulage of overburden from a series of sequential mining blocks to the emplacement areas; coal excavation and haulage; and rehabilitation of overburden emplacement areas.
