Liddell Coal has had a Community Consultative Committee (CCC) established for many years and meets at least twice per year. The CCC consists of two representatives from Liddell Coal, at least one representative from Muswellbrook Shire Council and Singleton Shire Council and at least three representatives from the local community (or as otherwise agreed by the Department of Planning).
The CCC enhances the relationship with the community by providing a formal forum for interaction between the community and mine management. The community representatives share information from meetings with the wider community and bring back items for discussion at the CCC meetings. The CCC reviews and provides advice on the environmental performance of the development, including any construction or environmental management plans, monitoring results, audit reports or complaints.
Minutes are prepared for each meeting and distributed to all CCC members for comment prior to finalising. Minutes are then forwarded to the Director-General of the Department of Planning (DOP). All action items arising from the meeting are recorded so that progress against these actions can be closely monitored at future meetings.
The mine representatives use the meetings as an opportunity to respond to any advice or recommendations the CCC may have in relation to the environmental management or performance of the development. Site inspections of the mine by the Committee are arranged on a regular basis, if required.
If members of the local community are interested in becoming a member on the Liddell Coal CCC or have any questions about the committee and its role on site, please do not hesitate to contact the site Environment and Community Superintendent, Ben de Somer on (02) 6570 9947.
